Why Swaddle my Baby?

Decreasing the risk of SIDS

Swaddled babies are calmer and easier to put to sleep on their backs, a practice that lowers the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.

Sleep longer

Because swaddling reduces arousal, wrapped babies are less likely to wake themselves resulting in longer, uninterrupted REM sleep cycles.

Calming colicky babies

Studies have also shown swaddling to be helpful in calming colicky babies less than two months of age.

Easier breast-feeding

Swaddled babies are calmer, squirm less and latch-on more easily.

Reducing the risk of injury

Normal reflex movement in infants can result in injury or scratching.  Swaddling secures baby’s arms safely.

Enhancing the neuromuscular development of low birth weight babies

Research suggests that stress reduction and longer rest periods may improve the outcome and developmental patterns of pre-term/low birth weight babies.
